AEON Humanoid Aims to Tackle Labor Gaps in Industry
Hexagon launches humanoids built for industry. Schaeffler and Pilatus are testing it in a variety of applications and environments.
Hexagon says the AEON humanoid combines mobility, sensor fusion, and AI-based spatial intelligence to address labour shortages and solve industrial use cases.
The humanoid is expected to improve safety and promote autonomy in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, transport, industry, warehousing, and logistics.
"AEON represents a cutting-edge humanoid tailored to industry," says Ola Rollén, Chairman of the Board of Hexagon.
AEON combines geospatial intelligence and multimodal sensor data to perceive its environment and optimize tasks accordingly. It is designed to perform a wide range of industrial functions, including target picking, component inspection, and creating digital twins. The humanoid remains operational without needing to recharge.
"We have already partnered with many leading companies in the field, and over the next six months we will deploy AEON in production environments before expanding the commercial rollout," says Arnaud Robert, Head of Robotics at Hexagon.
Hexagon's Robotics Division is working with Schaeffler and Pilatus to pilot AEON in manipulation, machine vision, part inspection, and reality capture use cases.
"Given the current challenges in Swiss manufacturing, we believe AEON is an important solution to maintain our competitiveness in an increasingly competitive global market," said Roman Emmenegger, Director of Manufacturing at Pilatus.
"We are excited to be able to test Hexagon Robotics' humanoid solutions in a variety of use cases in our factories and share decades of knowledge in manufacturing and vertical integration," added Sebastian Jonas, Schaeffler's Vice President of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
"AEON is powered by NVIDIA Accelerated Computing, NVIDIA Omniverse, and NVIDIA Jetson. The Microsoft Azure platform enables scalable development of AEON features and on-demand training. And thanks to Maxon's next-generation actuators, AEON's unique and powerful mobility works across multiple environments."
