Polar Night Energy’s first commercial sand-based high temperature heat storage is now in operation at Vatajankoski power plant area. The heat storage, which has a hundred tons of sand inside, is producing low emission district heating to the city of Kankaanpää in Western Finland. BBC made a story about Polar Night Energy’s heat storage solution.
Companies enhance their productivity and profitability by performing appropriate maintenance on their physical assets. The assets need to operate optimally and be available throughout production cycles. Most organizations optimize their maintenance programs to lower maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) costs. Excessive expenditure on equipment maintenance results in lower profit margins.
The upskilling of maintenance workers should be one of the most important and ongoing functions of any facilities management.
The energy strategies of many countries and economies will see a switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources in the decades to come. Dramatic developments in the situation in Eastern Europe will have fundamental consequences for energy supplies and prices.
Asset and maintenance management has always been important for Iceland – a small, isolated nation, involved with fishing in open seas, power production, and heavy industry, to name few areas of concern.
Lubrication is an essential part of machinery maintenance for nearly every production facility. On average, lubricant purchases only amount to 3 percent of a maintenance budget, but lubrication-related activities can influence an estimated 40 percent of total maintenance costs.
The carbon footprint of SPINNOVA textile fibre is already 72 percent lower than that of conventionally produced cotton. With the AmbiHeat heat pump plant and an energy ecosystem, each produced kilogram of textile fibre reduces overall CO2 emissions.
Maintenance teams deal with a myriad of issues daily. Requests for repairs stream in from different departments or users of the facility. Organizations provide maintenance work requests to departments to ensure uniformity and consistency when reporting problems and raising alerts with maintenance teams. Work requests enable companies to plan and prioritize maintenance tasks. In return, maintenance managers can allocate work evenly so that technicians remain productive and improve maintenance turnaround time.
