Wärtsilä and Royal Caribbean Group Sign Lifecycle Agreement to Accelerate Sustainable Development Goals
Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a five-year life-cycle agreement with Royal Caribbean Group covering 37 of the company's cruise ships.
The purpose of the agreement is to optimise the performance, reliability and availability of the ships' engines to ensure the highest possible operational efficiency and to support and accelerate Royal Caribbean's sustainability goals.
The contract covers both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, as well as Wärtsilä's Expert Insight service, delivered through Wärtsilä's global centres of expertise. Wärtsilä Expert Insight uses artificial intelligence technology for predictive maintenance, helping to improve asset efficiency and reduce operating costs and emissions.
This framework reduces the risk of unplanned maintenance and costly downtime, and improves performance, thereby saving fuel and reducing emissions.
The agreement also includes the introduction of a performance-based model. This means that profits from best operation and maintenance practices will be shared between Royal Caribbean Group and Wärtsilä.
"This agreement reflects the joint efforts and dedication of the Royal Caribbean Group and Wärtsilä teams. It not only consolidates our exemplary long-term partnership, but also takes our cooperation to new dimensions," comments Roger Holm, President of Wärtsilä Marine and Executive Vice President of Wärtsilä Corporation.
"Working with long-term partners like Wärtsilä is a cornerstone in our joint efforts to accelerate reliable and sustainable operations and future initiatives. It provides a solid framework for sustainable collaboration and contributes significantly to ensuring the sustainable operation of our fleet, which is vital for us and the industry," says Palle Laursen, Executive Vice President and Head of Shipping, Royal Caribbean Group.
